Our favorite makeup products for summer 2018

We try a lot of products here at AdviseMyStyle, trying to find the holy grail for every skin type, eye color and skin color. It's not an easy task, let me tell you that, separating the wheat from the chaff. But from time to time, some products shine a little brighter and manage to get a spot in our regular rotation. You might have noticed some brands repeatedly appearing in the product description box below our blogposts, but if you haven't been paying attention so far, here's a little cheat sheet of our favorite products for summer 2018!

A quality eyeshadow palette

Coming in a luxurious little pouch, the Dior 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palette is the only high-end product on our list, which proves just how little the price affects the quality. Nonetheless, what you pay here is more than justified. The palettes in this range are incredibly versatile, strongly pigmented and will therefore last you for ages. Our favorite is the palette no. 777 Exalt.

If you tend to hoard eyeshadow palettes with hundreds of shades, but using only one or two colors on a regular basis, consider investing into one high-quality eyeshadow set in the colors that suit you best. This will not only save you money in the long run, but also improve the staying power and overall look of your makeup.

Hint hint: A perfect palette for most would include one bright/colorful shade, 2 or three light, neutral shades and a dark shade. That’s it. Those are actually the shades I bet most of you use regularly, so don’t give in to the clever marketing schemes that urge you to buy their latest release.

Pro tip: When buying high-end eyeshadow palettes, stick to the classic collections, meaning those that the brand is known for. Don’t fall for the “special” or seasonal collections, because the quality of those is usually pretty horrible.

It would not be a summer post if it didn’t include a bronzer to achieve a gloriously healthy, the-sun-loves-me look. The one we love dearly and (over)use regularly is Misslyn’s Beach Please bronzer. For a couple of bucks (around 5€, actually) you get a bronzer with a hard texture, meaning it won’t make you look muddy if you accidentally swirl the brush a bit too intensely in the pan, but will give you the skin of a bronzed goddess. This brand doesn’t have much else going for it, but the bronzer they did good.

L'Oreal False Lash Superstar mascara gives a lot of bang for the buck. We’re talking length, volume and thickness – what more could you want?! Many, many girls praise it and our makeup artist Jure swears by it, as proved in many of our video tutorials.

Foundation/Pressed powder

Summer means high temperatures and high humidity which is a winning combination for the staying power and look of a typical liquid foundation – NOT! If you want to avoid the oily look that inevitably shines through by the early afternoon, ZAO Poudre Compacte (compact powder) can become a game-changer for you. This provides some light coverage when you blend it in, so it can be used instead of your usual foundation, which works brilliantly for the summer, or on top of your foundation to perfect and mattify it. When used instead of the foundation, this melts with your natural skin oils and gives an incredibly lovely finish.

Best part: this is 100% cruelty-free, vegan product, so not only is it good for your skin, it’s good for the environment, too!

Speaking of cruelty-free…

Do you have any favorite cruelty-free products you swear by? We would LOVE to hear about it, because we are trying to make an overhaul of our makeup kit, including more products that don’t test on animals. Let us know in the comments!
