We asked which outfit you’d like Eva to buy, and you said the green one but guess what: we bought both! Here’s a makeup look that’ll work with both styles.
Step 1: Soft as a baby’s bottom
Baby butt cream; we’ve said it before but you just can’t beat it for moisturising the face. So slap it on and let it work its magic.
Step 2: Flatten the canvas
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra is a great place to start so apply it over the whole eye area and then the whole face. This will flatten the canvas so to speak, the more you reduce the shadows the more scope you’ll have to get creative and play around later.
Next we’ll use a grey eyeshadow by Dior. With deep set eyes like Eva’s, where she has a lot of lid-space, this will give a crazier look.
Step 3: Over to you, Eva
We gave Eva the liquid eyeliner to apply herself. She’s used to using liquid liners and was comfortable enough to do this on camera but sadly this wasn’t her day to shine and it went a little skewiff. She hadn’t used this particular liner before and the tip is very fine. Apologies Eva, you were a good sport allowing us to film your first go, and we’re mighty impressed how you recovered from it too. You see girls, nobody gets things right the first time, practice is the key.
Now with her own liner in hand, Eva’s applied quite a heavy cat flick. It’s bigger than we would have applied ourselves but rather than take the whole thing off let’s roll with it and see how we can make this work.
Step 4: Go big or go home
Strange as it may seem - after just saying that the flick is too big - actually applying more black is the answer here. This looks quite drastic but bear with us, we’re going to connect the upper and lower parts with a black pencil which will disguise the fact the line breaks.
Yep, it’s a bold look and Eva was also very keen to wear fake eyelashes so we agreed go even bolder. These lashes are very heavy and not what we’re used as we’d normally opt for a softer look, but it’s fun to play around and experiment so we’ll stick with them today. These lashes were way too curved so a quick trim was necessary and as you can see, things are starting to come together.
Pro tip: When buying fake lashes it’s worth spending a little more for a decent ones, the glue can be awful with the cheaper sets.
Step 5: Facial architecture
Dampening the sponge with deionised water and tapping over the dry, tinted foundation really helps it to sink in and allows the skin naturally absorb it which gives a more flawless finish.
Eva has wide, angled features, so to soften to the cheekbones a little we’re going over them with a light contour which will help to make them appear rounder.
Applying it lower, would result in a more ‘vampy’ look which isn’t a direction we’re going in today.
We’ve gone over this with Kiss and Blush (a favourite of ours), to soften the contours a little more. This is a great product for pale skin and works really well for those of you with freckles.
Let’s finish this whole look with a Mac Boldly Bare lip pencil; perfect.
It’s easy to think that make up is the most important thing when you’re styling yourself but it’s actually comes in at number three behind your hairstyle and outfit. If these two are wrong then even the best makeup application is simply going to get lost. Everything needs to work together to complete one’s overall style.
When we’re working with girls in the studio we’ll film two different styles; one that we choose for them and another that they choose for themselves. The two finished looks can be very different and we’re always interested to see which of them you prefer.
Here at Advise My Style we’re fortunate to be able to work with professional models. Girls that are comfortable in front of the camera not only present our work to its best but their confidence also adds a pinch of magic - and your feedback tells us that these are the tutorials you like the best. So thank you, and please keep those comments coming!
